LAMBS DISAPPOINT

SEASON UNFAVOURABLE MORE “SECONDS” AT WORKS Many fat lamb producers in the Waikato have expressed disappointment with the grading of their lambs this season and have been at a loss to account for the greater number of “seconds” in their returns. However, a visit to the killing works when their fat lambs are going through should be sufficient to convince them that the quality of the lambs on the average is definitely lower.

Those concerned with the trade say that the number of second grade lambs is the greatest for years. The unfavourable season is blamed, the cold snap in September being responsible for one of the setbacks to quality. Although the lambs are usually of good size, the quality generally does not compare well with last year.
