TRIBUTES PAID
REV. H. J. LILBURN FAREWELLED PRESENTATION FROM CHURCH Parishioners of Knox Church, Hamilton East, a large gathering of other Presbyterians in the district, and representatives from other churches gathered at Knox Church last night to farewell the Rev. and Mrs H. J. Lilburn, who will be leaving shortly for St. James, Auckland. The Rev. Lilburn has been in charge of Knox Church for four years, and the large attendance and the many speakers were testimonies to his popularity.
The senior elder of Knox Church, Mr T. H. Henderson presided, and on behalf of the parishioners presented Mr Lilbum with a cheque. In wishing the recipient every success in his new sphere Mr Henderson paid a tribute to the excellent work performed by Mr and Mrs Lilbum during their stay at Hamilton East. Other speakers, who also referred in eulogistic manner to the tasks performed by Mr and Mrs Lilbum, included: Rev. S. J. Atkins (First Church, Frankton), Pastor J. Salisbury (Church of Christ), Rev. G. E. Brown (Hamilton East Methodist), Rev. J. C. Young (Te Awamutu), Rev. J. Haslop (Te Aroha), Mr F. Findlay (representing St. Andrew’s Church). Mrs J. A. Clements (representing the various womens’ organisations), representatives of branches of the church in Mr Lilburn’s district, and sectional interests including Sunday School, Bible Class and youth movements. In replying to the many expressions of goodwill, Mr Lilbum referred to the happy time he had spent at Hamilton East and thanked all who had given him such strong support and assistance.
