TE RAPA GALLOPS

TOSH MOVED FAST FIVE FURLONGS IN 1.1 4-5 HOLIDAY CANDIDATES WORK (By “Martian”) The course proper at Te Rapa this morning approximately 30 feet out from the rails, was available for horses engaged at Ellerslie over the holidays while the No. 1 grass, lefthanded, was open for local candidates claiming engagements on the Taranaki circuit. Both tracks provided splendid going and some interesting work was accomplished, the best effort of the morning being five furlongs by Tosh, who is to contest the open sprint at the Taranaki Jockey' Club’s Christmas meeting. On the course proper, Beau Repaire (Hall), assisted over the first five furlongs by Olympus (McKenzie) in 1.7, ran on to the seven furlong peg in 1.34. Both these members of the Julian stable executed their work in pleasing style and appear to be improved with racing. Meadow (McLaughlin) and Foxsen (Long) were associated over six furlongs, the latter shading Meadow in 1.19, the first half-mile in 53s and the five furlongs in 1.5 4-5. It was a useful trial on the part of Foxsen who is to have the services of L. J. Ellis in the Queen’s Plate on the first day of the Auckland carnival.

A Useful Round A useful effort over a round was credited to Acreman (Telford), who, with the assistant* of Starbright (Izod) over the first six furlongs in 1.22 1-5, and brought home by Poland (Long) over tne balance of the trip, completed the full distance in 2.5*. Seneta (Telford) was not bustled over a circuit in 2.14 1-5.

Mio Lume (Hain), assisted over the early part by Aintree (Long) and Calshot (Gollop), who lost an iron, ran once round in 2.7 2-5. Mio Lume is bearing a healthy appearance and looks in good order for racing over the holidays. Sir Tommy (Winder) and Vitement (Hain) ran three furlongs along the back in 36*s. Raceline (Amunsden), unaccompanied, ran three furlongs, from the three to the six, in 40s. He is to race at the Pirongia non-totalisator gathering on Boxing Day. Green Label (Curran), another Pirongia candidate, ran once round on the plough in company with Inness Lad (Winder), the pair finishing practically on terms in 1.57. They were assisted over the first seven furlongs by British Sovereign (Muir) but were not timed over this section

A Fast Five The balance of the morning’s programme out on the No. 1 grass, on whirh the best figures were those of Tosh (O. Mclnally), who traversed the distance in 1.1 4-5, after covering his first quarter in 24*s. Tosh is entered for sprint engagements at the Taranaki meeting and on this morning’s showing he should strip in splendid fettle for racing at the fixture.

Bronze Step (Gollop) and Herbage (O. Mclnally) came home from the half-mile in 50s. Bronze Step has been making good progress of late and should pay expenses on the Taranaki trip. The only schooling of the morning was that in which Inness Lad (Winder) and British Sovereign (Muir) were associated over four hurdles, both giving a sound exhibition of fast and clever jumping. H. Long has been engaged to ride Palustre, Wyndora, Gay Broney and Fils de Vaals in Auckland engagements.
