BROKEN IN TWO

STRANDED WAIKOUAITI (By Telegrapfi.—Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Monday The Waikouaiti, which ran on the rocks on Dog Island in a thick fog on the night of November 28, has broken in two. A crack forward of the bridge developed in the last few days, although the weather was fairly calm, and when the salvage of cargo was resumed today it was discovered the ship was in two parts with the sea washing between.

It is thought the stern section will not slip into deep water for a time unless rough weather blows up from the west.
