SUCCESSFUL RECITAL
JOSEPH CRAWFORD STUDIO VERY ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME Another of the pupils’ recitals which mark the end of the year's work was given in Hamilton last night, when the Joseph Crawford Studio of Singing (Mr and Mrs Joseph Crawford) gave a conceit programme in the lounge of the Lyceum Club. There was a large audience and the programme, which covered a wide range of vocal music, was much enjoyed. The standard of work reflected great credit on performers and teachers. Those present were received by Mr and Mrs Crawford, the latter wearing a graceful gown of ivory souple satin, worn with a corsage spray of gladioli in autumn tonings. The studio choir sang the Soldiers’ Chorus from “ Faust,” “ Funiculi Funicula,” and “ Land of Hope and Glory,” with good balance and tone. Mr Inia Te Whata displayed a very fine bass voice in “ Asleep in the Deep,” and Mr Colin Roskruge, in “ Friend o’ Mine,” sang exceptionally well for so young a singer. Some Good Work Items were given as follows, the performers being warmly applauded: —“My Dear Soul,” Mr Eric Truman; “You In a Gondola” (Clarke), Helen Rapps; “Flower Song” (Schubert), Hilary York and Lewis Billington; “Myself When Young” (Lehmanr;.), Arthur Swarbrick; “Blackbird in My Garden” (Wood), Lois Avery; quartette, “A Soldier's Farewell,” Morris Purdy, Lewis Billington, Beresford Whyte, Eric Truman; “Passing By” (Purcell), Gordon Rickit; “The Enchantress” (Hatton), Nan Campbell; “When Song is Sweet” (Sans Souci), Douglas Smith; “Just a Memory” (Henderson), Aileen Ferguson and Norman Leaf; “Friend O’ Mine” (Sanderson), Colin Roskruge; “By the Waters of Minnetonka” (Lieurance), Leonie Swarbrick, with violin obbligato by Mr A.
