WEDDINGS
LOWRY—NEWELL SATIN AND LACE GOWN St. Aidan’s Church, Claudelands, was beautifully arranged with Christmas lilies and pink roses by friends of the bride yesterday afternoon when Nancy May, only child of Mr and Mrs Claude Newell, of Thames Street, Claudelands, was married to Private Donald Edward Lowry, only son of Mrs R. W. Robinson, of Thames, and the late Mr H. Lowry. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. A. Crossman and Mrs Stubbs played the wedding music. During the service a sacred solo was sung by Miss Alma Burton. A lovely slim-fitting frock of pearl-white soupje satin was the choice of the bride for her wedding gown, which was cut on simple princess lines, the skirt flowing gracefully into a .long fishtail train adorned with heavy Venetian lace appliqued in satin flowers. The front of the bodice, which was fashioned with a Peter Pan collar and a pointed yoke of Venetian lace, was softly shirred, the back being trimmed with tiny satin buttons to below the corselette waistline. Venetian lace also formed *he tops of the long sleeves which tapered to points over tire hands and were fastened with tiny satin buttons. Her embroidered silk net veil, which fell in filmy folds to form a second train, was caught to the head by a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a beautiful bouquet of Christmas lilies, sweet peas, roses and maidenhair fern. The bride was given away by her father. Pink and Green Lace In attendance on the bride as bridesmaids were Miss Helen Brown in lotus-bud-pink and Miss Jean Livingstone in oasis-green Chantilly lace. The frocks were designed on simple close-fitting lines, the fronts of the bodices being shirred from V-shaped necklines to the waists, from where the skirts flared gracefully. Tiny buttons were placed down the centre backs and a pretty feature of the gowns was the shirred butterfly sleeves. They wore garlands of flowers across their hair and carried bouquets of carnations, sweet peas and roses in toning shades. The bridegroom was attended by Private W. Johnson as best man and Corporal J. Shepherd as groomsman The ushers at the church were Private R. Thompson and Mr T. Roche.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Centreway Rooms, which had been artistically decorated with summer flowers to tone with the bridesmaids’ frocks. The guests were received by Mr and Mrs Newell, the latter wearing a graceful gown of mushroom lace over wineberry, and a wineberry pedaline straw picture hat. Her posy was composed of carnations, roses and tweet peas in toning shades.
When Private and Mrs D. E. Lowry left for the wedding trip, the bride travelled in a smart model ensemble of clipper-green crepe mignon relieved with tawny gold. VIPO ND—W AT SON A charming wedding was solemnised in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Matamata, on Saturday, December 2, when Mona Isabel, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. J. Watson, of Peria, Matamata, was married to John Maxwell, only son of Mrs and the late Mr J. Vipond, of Auckland. The Rev. J. H. Coombes officiated at the ceremony and Mrs W. Clinch presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gracefully-fash-ioned gown of pale cream triple embossed ninon, worn over underskirts of georgette and taffeta. The pointed bodice featured a low-cut heartshaped neckline and puffed sleeves, and the back was finished with buttons to below the waistline, from which the billowy skirt fell to form a slight train. An exquisite handembroidered veil was held in place by a double-pointed halo of embossed ninon. Elbow-length gloves of cream kid were worn, and she carried a beautiful bouquet of roses, orange blossom and maidenhair fern. The Attendants In attendance as matron-of-honour and bridesmaid were Mrs C. R. Houghton and Miss Hilda Watson, sister of the bride, who were dressed alike in frocks cut on similar lines to the bridal gown. The material was silvery grey double georgette worn over grey satin. They wore page-boy hats of rose-red georgette, from one side of which a draping of georgette fell over the opposite shoulder. The ensembles were completed with elbow-length gloves of rose-red kid, and sheaf bouquets of red rosebuds. Mrs R. Carson, of Auckland, was the best man, and Mr C. Marks, of Auckland, was the groomsman. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Rialto, where Mrs Watscji, assisted by Mrs Vipond, received the guests. Mrs Watson wore a becoming ensemble of deeppurple crepe, cut on very slim-fit-ting lines and featuring a threequarter length loose coat. She wove a picture hat of purple straw, and carried a posy of pink rosebudgs. Mrs Vipond was wearing a smart suit of navy matt-crepe, the fitting jacket of which was braided m white. Her hat was of navy straw, and she carried a posy of lemon rosebuds. When Mr and Mrs J. M. Vipond left on their honeyinoon, the bride travelled in a smart suit of tan crepe with a white toque. CORNISH—ROBINSON Holy Trinity Church, Ngaruawahia, was the scene of the marriage on the evening of Saturday, December 16 of Madge, fifth daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Robinson, of Ngunguru, Whangarei, and Vernon Alexander, second son of Mr and Mrs T. Cornish, of Ngaruawahia. The officiating minister was the Rev. J. D. W. Raine, and the wedding music was played by Mr S. Sampson. The church was attractively arranged with pink and ivory flowers and greenery. The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr C. Ludwig, wore a beautiful. gown of parchment satin. Fashion on slimfitting lines the bodice was finished with a heart-shaped neckline, the back being fashioned with a row of tiny buttons down the back. The long sleeves tapered to points over the wrists. The skirt fell fully from a wide basque to form a circular train, ornamented with tiny sprigs of orange blossom. Her beautiful veil of embroidered tulle was caught to the head with a stiffened coronet of silk net and orange blossom and fell to form a second train. She carried a bouquet of stocks, Christmas lilies and maidenhair fern. When coming out of the church the bride was presented with a satin horseshoe by the bridegroom’s niece, Beverly Mayall. The Bridesmaids Two bridesmaids attended the bride. Miss Eva Clarke and Miss June Cornish. They wore similar frocks of shell pink georgette over satin. Fashioned with heart-shaped necklines and full puff sleeves, the bodices were tight-fitting, the skirts flaring from rows of pin-tucks around the waist. They wore coronets of latticed gold tinsel and carried bouquets
of stocks and sweet peas. Mr Gordon Clarke was best man and Mr Rex Goodall was groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, which was beautifully arranged with pink and ivory sweet peas. Mrs T. Cornish received her guests wearing a smart ensemble of navy blue satinbacked crepe-de-chine, relieved witn accordion-pleated ivory crepe-de-chine at the V neckline. She wore a navy Ballibuntal hat and carried a posy of sweet peas. Mrs C. Ludwig, sister of the bride, wore navy figured cloque and carried a posy of carnations. When Mr and Mrs V. A. Cornish left by car for the honeymoon the bride travelled in a smart frock of navy coin-spot satin and a swing coat.. Their future, home will be at Ngaruawahia. To entertain their many friends and guests after the wedding of their son Vernon to Miss Madge Robinson, Mr and Mrs T. Cornish held a delightful social and dance in the Oddfellows’ Hall. Music was supplied byMrs Connolly’s orchestra and the master of ceremonies was Mr H. McCauley. Among those present were:—Mesdames T. Cornish, navy georgette; B.
