Mrs B. R. Long, Hamilton, who has been visiting her daughters, Mrs C. Edwards, Hawke’s Bay, and Mrs Harrell Neiper, Wellington, has returned home.

Miss Pat Heathcote was recently tendered a gift evening by her friends in Te Aroha, prior to her marriage to Mr P. Wills, Kereone, next Saturday.

The Rev. J. A. Day, Ngaruawahia, who is leaving the district, was the recipient of a book and autograph album from the Young Churchman’s fellowship members and a pipe from the committee of the Church Army.

Madame Winnie Fraser has left Dunedin to visit her father, the Rev. John Nixon, at New Plymouth, before going Auckland and Rotorua. Later she will give two lecturerecitals in the women’s section of the Exhibition at Wellington.

A happy time was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs A. Howell, Orini, when their daughter, Esther, held her annual Christmas tree party for the children of the district. A pleasing interlude in the games and singing was the presentation of posies to Mrs Wiltshire and Mrs HowelL Afternoon tea served on the la\wa concluded the party.

Members of the Hamilton Philharmonic Society visited Auckland during the week-end to take part in “The Messiah” presented by the Auckland Choral Society under the conductorship of Dr. Frederic Staton, of England. After the performance Dr Staton was the guest-of-honour at a reception held by the society in the Choral Hall at which the following members of the Hamilton Philharmonic Society were present:— Mr? V. Church, Mrs L. Wells, Mrs W. Storry, Mrs A. Wintour, Miss Wiltshire, Miss Dulcie Evans, Miss Myra Salter, Miss V. Watkins, Miss Alison Wintour and Miss Cowern.

CAMBRIDGE Miss M. Bcemner is a visitor to Auckland. Mrs M. Duckering is staying in Auckland during the school holidays. Mrs Alan Willis is a visitor to Wellington for the Exhibition. Mrs P. Passen is visiting Mrs O'Loughlen. Mrs Cleland has left to spend Christmas at Invercargill. Mrs Inkster, Wellington, is the guest of her sister, Mrs G. R. Calvert. Miss Ruth Whitley, Auckland, is the guest of her mother, Mrs R. S. Whitley. Miss G. Tait, of the Cambridge Primary School staff,, is spending the vacation in Invercargill. Mrs E. H. Leigh has returned from a visit to her daughter-in-law, Mrs P. Leigh, Paeroa. Miss Kathleen Schwieters is spending the school vacation visiting her mother, Mrs H. Schwieters, Opotiki. Miss Nancy Armstrong, of the New Hebrides mission field, arrived by the Southern Cross to spend her furlough with her mother, Mrs S. Armstrong.

WHATAWHATA Misses N. and M. Egan are holidaying in Wellington. Miss D. Higginson has returned home from the Training College. Miss P. Snell has returned home from the Training College. Miss A. C. Fitzsimmons is spending the school vacation at Lake Rotoiti, Nelson. OKOROIRE Miss Nancye Graham, Auckland, has been visiting Okoroire Springs. Mrs N. L. Higginson and Miss Valerie Higginson have returned home from a visit to Auckland. Mrs E. Gubb, of ‘Tlillcrest,” is the guest of her daughter, Mrs Vernon McCutcheon, Napier. Miss Audrey Wiss, Okoroire, leaves this week to visit her home at Thames. Miss Dorothy Graham has left Okoroire Springs to spend the school holidays at Auckland, Te Awamutu and Wellington.
