KAIPAKI SCHOOL

BREAK-UP PARTY (Special to Times) KAIPAKI. Monday The closing of the school year was marked in the Kaipaki School on Friday afternoon by an entertainment given by the children to a large number of parents and friends. In the senior room the handwork done by the children throughout the year was laid out for display. The needlework, faneywork and arts and crafts reflected great credit upon the training given. The scholars entertained the visitors with a number of recitations, playettes, songs and dances, all of which were cleverly and gracefully executed, through the careful training of Miss Taylor. Mr A. M. Fisher, chairman of the school committee, who was accompanied by several other members of the committee, spoke in eulogistic manner on the work of the school and congratulated the head teacher (Mr I. Cruickshank) and Miss Taylor, assistant teacher. Mr Fisher expressed regret on behalf of the parents, children and committee that Miss Taylor was leaving the school owing to the shortage of scholars. Miss Taylor had done excellent work

with the children, to whom she had endeared herself. As a token of appreciation of her work Mr Fisher asked her to accept a lovely little clock and some toilet accessories. Miss Taylor suitably responded. Mr Cruickshanks also spoke in eulogistic terms of Miss Taylor’s work in the school, and expressed great regret at losing her. Mr Fisher presented the gardening prizes for the best-kept school garden throughout the year. Mrs Fisher, who judged the plots, placed Philip McEldowney first, Fred Willoughby second. Afternoon tea was served by women helpers and each child was presented with a bag of sweets.
