CYCLING OVER ISLAND R. A. WALKER REDUCES TIME Reaching Auckland at 11.15 last night, R. A. Walker, the Auckland cyclist, clipped 2 days 9J hours off his own record for the round-the-North Island trip. The previous record was 11 days 5 hours, the new time being 8 days 19} hours. Walker established his previous record in June, 1938. In May last he attempted to lower the record, but after covering 502 miles the effort was abandoned owing to the cyclist straining a tendon of the right knee. The distance ridden by Walker was about 1180 miles.
