NATIONAL PARTY
POSITION OF FARMERS MEETING AT WHITIANGA (Special to Times# TE AROHA, Saturday Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P. for Waikato, addressed a meeting of supporters of the National Party at Whitianga last night. The speaker dealt with the political situation and said he did not agree with direct action as proposed by some of the community. The only democratic method of bringing about a change in the Government was at the ballot box. Mr Goosman said that the present method of paying high wages and the shortening of hours on Public Works was making it impossible for farmers to get labour. He was convinced now as always that New Zealand’s prosperity depended upon primary producers being able to produce goods at a price within the capacity of the working people in England to pay. Mr Goosman was listened to with interest and received a vote of thanks for his address. Mr W. C. Kennedy and Mr McCain: oil, chairman and secretary respectively of the Thames branch of the National Party, also addressed the gathering.
