OBITUARY

MR W. S. F. ROYDHOUSE VETERAN JOURNALIST (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CARTERTON, Friday The death has occurred of Mr William S. Francis Roydhouse, at the age of 83. Mr Roydhouse was bom in London in 1856 and came to New Zeaand in 1868. He founded the Wairarapa Daily Times in 1878 and in 1884 he established the Evening Press in Wellington. He later sold the latter paper and bought the Wairarapa Standard, Greytown. He also purchased the Carterton Observer, and this, on amalgamation with the Leader in 1906, became the Wairarapa Daily News, of which Mr Roydhouse became sole proprietor. He later took his son into partnership.
