RAGLAN CALLING

WAIKATO INVITED j PREPARATION FOR VISITORS j " | A BRIGHT HOLIDAY RESORT .( I Within a week, Raglan will be J decked in “holiday attire” in readiI ness for the usual influx of the i crowds who now look upon this progressive town as the best all-round seaside resort in the Auckland Province. This year in particular, people are keener than ever to indulge jjj holi-day-making, not of the bustling kind, but more of a peaceful nature. No one wants to go far from home especially in a time of crisis and so the 30 miles journey over a good road to Raglan is considered the ideal place—one that covers all that the town or city dweller desires. The visitor will be charmed to note the fairylike appearance of the township at night. Dozens of coloured electric lights will brighten the main street. An address system will broadcast music and novel announcements—pictures will be shown each evening at the Town Hall—the Dixieland Cabaret is to stage dances

almost every night, providing good music for the young folk who look forward to this form of amusement.

In the day time, those fond of fishing will be provided with every opportunity to enjoy themselves on the fine harbour. Boats and launches are procurable at very reasonable rates. Excursions to various places of interest may be arranged and on Regatta Day, January 1, free harbour trips for visitors are provided. The tennis, croquet and bowling clubs all extend a welcome to visitors who are advised to bring their sporting gear with them. Bathing under splendid conditions can be enjoyed at all the beaches, the majority of which are five minutes’ walk from the main street. Surf bathing at Ocean Beach, two miles distant is sought after by large numbers. All Campers Welcome Provision has been made for campers on the Kopua. a sheltered area in close proximity to the town. Fresh water is provided at the ground, which is situated within a chain of the water’s edge. Campers are advised to make application to Mr G. Carr, county agent, at the Raglan Town Hall before proceeding to the camping ground. Carnival Attractions During the New Year week-end the carnival atmosphere will be very evident. The Hamilton Regimental Band will arrive shortly after rioon on the Saturday and after marching through the town will render selections during the afternoon and evening. They are also rendering a programme on Sunday afternoon and will finish up the day with a sacred concert in the Town Hall. On Regatta Day, Monday, January 1, the band will play on the jetty during the morning and afternoon. National Dancing Of special interest is the staging of of national dancing on the Kopua on Regatta Day when many prominent competitors will take part. The programme has been issued and entries are coming in splendidly. A handsome silver cup has been donated and dancers are advised to obtain a programme early to make certain of entering the lists and thus gaining the opportunity of winning such a fine trophy. The speed boats, runabouts, launches and canoe events will have record fields this year and as usual, ? special aquaplaning display will be given. Big Dance at Night The day will conclude with a carnival ball in the Raglan Town Hall at which the national dancers will provide some special highlights. Excellent music and supper will be provided and a spirit of gaiety will prevail. In Conclusion " For those who require information regarding Raglan, please turn to another page in this issue on which is printed a half page of news and information on Raglan—the “live-wiie” town of the Waikato. On Xmas Eve, a special bus will leave Hamilton at 10.30 p.m. and also on New Year’s Eve at 10 p.m.

All entries for the Regatta should be forwarded to the secretary (Mr C H. Marcroft) who will be pleased to supply any information required.
