CHRISTMAS SHOPPERS
BUSY FRIDAY NIGHT COMPARISON WITH LAST YEAR Throughout the week in Hamilton signs of Christmas shopping have been abundantly apparent. Yesterday, and to even a greater degree last night, the town became the busiest it has been during the shopping season. Christmas trading in Hamilton had really begun in earnest. However, the concensus of opinion among businessmen tpday was that, while business was very much brisker, the returns were not quite equal to those for the corresponding day last year. The difference was not in the majority of cases large. Some shops considered business as good as last year. Retailers were of the opinion that the smaller turnover this year was due, to a great extent, to the exhaustion of stocks in many of the most popular selling lines. Traffic was particularly heavy in Hamilton last night, and even during the usually slack period from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., the town was very busy. Roads leading to the town carried unusually heavy traffic.
