PHILATELISTS MEET
WAIKATO CLUB NIGHT ADDRESS ON CANADIAN ISSUES The Waikato Philatelic Society held its monthly meeting at the Whitiora Bowling pavilion this week. Dr. W. R. Fea presided over an attendance of nearly 30 enthusiasts, six of whom were visitors from the Morrinsville Philatelic Society, including the president. Mr E. H. Hutchings. Mr C. R. Coates was appointed exchange superintendent. Seven new members were elected, making the strength of the 5 ocicty 39. It was decided in view of the holidays that the next meeting should be held on January 17, a week later than the ordinary date. Mr M. C. Gudex gave an interesting lecturette on the stories behind the stamps of Canada, traversing the arrival of Cartier in the St. Lawrence, the settling of the'land, the capture of Canada by the British from the French, all of which incidents were depicted on the various issues of Canada. Mr Gudex was given a vote of thanks for his lucid address. Mr Edsall notified that he would lecture at the next meeting on the pony express stamps of the United States. After supper there was much exchanging of stamps, the club funds benefiting materially. A competition arranged by the secretary was won by Messrs Phillips and Coates. The prizes were donated by Dr. Fea and Mr G. Goodwin.
