FRIESIAN CATTLE
ASSOCIATION MEETS PRESENTATION OF CUPS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Thursday Members from Taranaki, Auckland, Canterbury and Otago were among those present at a general meeting of the New Zealand Friesian Association. Mr R. S. Tait moved “that a ward system of election of members of the council be instituted.” During a long discussion, doubt was expressed -as to whether a satisfactory ward system could be arranged. An amendment, moved by Mr G. H. Hassail and seconded by Mr R. F. Dickie, “that the council be asked to consider the question and present a report at the next annual meeting,” was carried. Cups given by the association which are becoming the property of the winners, were presented by the president as follows:—Champion Bull, Mr A. J. Rainey (Kaiapoi); cow, Mr J. J. Stott (Oamaru). Grigg Jubilee Cup, for breeders in the senior group, Mr J. Brown (Wainiwa). Twenty-eight new members were elected and 14 herd names registered. At a subsequent meeting of the council of the Friesian Association the prize money for the 1939 Derby was fixed at £SO. Mr F. H. Hammond (Richmond, Nelson) was appointed official judge. Messrs J. J. Stott (Oamaru), McHattie (Outram) and D. H. Kennedy (Windsor) and James Woodbridge, (Auckland) were also appointed, subject to passing a practical judging test. A remit from the Canterbury branch stating that the conditions governing the official test should be altered to permit the use of bail releasers was approved, and it was decided to seek the co-operation of the New Zealand Jersey Association in bringing the matter before the director of the Dairy division.
