The weather was perfect and the going on the course proper, on which poles were out 7 u feet, was in splendid order. The two-year-old Calula Boy showed plenty of dash while reeling oil three furlongs in 395. Trevace got to the end of half a mile in 53 1 -ss. He ran the first three In 13s and was going exceptionally well after taking 114 4-5 s for his first two furlongs. Cheddlngton and Worton completed five furlongs in 1.6. This was the best of the morning before the breakfast Interval. Two 'Auckland Cup candidates, Pern and Beverley, finished ahead of Gay Broney at the conclusion or a mile and a quarter in 2.-12 1-5. They ran the last round in 2.12 2-5 and the final six furlongs in 1.24 1-5. Pern had an advantage at the finish. The stablem&tes Bide-a-wee and Royal Son were not extended to run five furlongs In 1.9 1-5. Land Girl was several lengths clear of Royal Huntress at the end of six rurlongs in I.SI 4-5. Kelly hit out freely over half a mile, which took 52 4-ss. Melvanui ran the last seven furlongs of his work in 1.36 3-5. Wc went very evenly throughout. ATter running their first furlong In 12 4-5 s Phaleron was doing better than Auburn Lad at the end of hair a mile In 5 3s. In a similar task Ilinehou was going nicely to take 54 3-ss. Spinning Wheel and Tea Gong were under restraint over seven furlongs In 1.43 2-5, the last half-mile taking 55 2-SS. Yalmint worked freely over three furlongs. which occupied 11 a, and Mghtbearn was anxious to go Taster over a similar distance while recording 43 2-ss. The best trial over seven rurlongs was credited to Ivy WHlonyx, who beat Amu* court by several lengths in 1.33 3-5. The first half mile took 51 l-ss, and Ivy \VUlonyx impressed by her efTort. Royal Messaae Shapes Well Royal Message was too good for Ringshot over seven furlongs In 1.37, the first three taking 4 is. The two-year-old Cilia* was golnr nicely while running three furlongs In 40s. Pasture strode over seven furlongs 1n 1.42 3-5. She increased the speed over the last three rurlongs, which occupied 39 3-ss. Clipper was too good for Valdene at the conclusion of six rurlongs in 1.20 4-5. the first three In 38 3-ss. It was a first rate effort. There was nothing between Sebrof and silver Stick at the conclusion or five furlongs In 1.6 3 5. They ran the first two in 21 3-ss. and both horses were travelling well at the end. Biddy Girl cantered round to the three rurlong post and came home in 4 2s. She was under restraint throughout. Cintraee was holding Whenua after traversing seven furlongs In 1.36 3 5. The first hair-mile took 43s and it was a pleasing effort. There was little between StratTord and Night Pilot over half a mile, from the seven furlongs to the three, which took \'iappicoat and Mon Acre recorded 52 1-5* for a similar distance Happlcoat was doing the better at the end. Odtaa was responsible Tor the be*t five furlongs of the morning, recording 1 5 •>-r. . lie ran the nrst two in 24s and was kicked out over the la<t furlong.
