TOBACCO DEARER

INCREASE IN SOME LINES Increases in the retail prices of some lines of tobacco and cigarettes have taken place throughout New Zealand, but Hamilton tobacconists stated today that only a few lines were affected. There was nothing like a general increase in prices, as most of the lines affected were not widely sought after. Lines of cigarettes previously raised from 4d to 5d are now 6d a packet, and /some New Zealand manufactured tobaccos have been increased by Id a 2oz. tin. The lines most affected are those that were previously selling at Is Bd, Is 9d and Is lOd. Several imported tobaccos have also been raised, the most popular being an American brand that has been increased from 2s 8d to 2s lOd.
