CASE DISMISSED

FOUND ON PREMISES POLICE RAID AT FRANKTON Found on premises which were being used for the illegal sale of liquor on October 21, Edward Hunt, farmer, of Te Miro, Cambridge, appeared before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today. Defendant, who pleaded not guilty, conducted his own defence. The case for the police was conducted by Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert. Sergeant H. Fryer gave evidence of having executed a warrant to search a house occupied by Mark Carson, at 53 Colombo Street, Frankton, when a number of arrests was made. A quantity of liquor was found on the premises. While witness was there defendant arrived and had no excuse to offer for his presence. In his defence Hunt stated that he was not asked by Sergeant Fryer why he was on the premises. He was asked his name, address and occupation and gave the particulars. On his arrival he did not ask for any liquor. He went to Carson’s house with a friend to ascertain the whereabouts of a man named Bob Wright. He was on legitimate business while he was on the premises. “There seems t$ have been a misunderstanding and you will be given the benefit of the doubt,” said the magistrate in dismissing the case.
