ITALY’S CLAIMS

NEED FOR COLONIES DEMAND FOR FREEDOM “A VERY BLOODY WAR” (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright; (Received Dec. 13, 3.15 p.m.) ROME, Dec. 12 Signor Gayda, broadcasting, declared that a revision of the colonial system is essential to the new Europe. Italy, with a rising birthrate, has a particular colonial claim against Franee, whose birth-rate is falling. Signor Gayda complained that Britain’s power to close the Mediterranean imprisons Italy, impairing her liberty of movement. “It is necessary that Italy has freedom similar to that of the other great Powers, who defend the necessities of life at the cost of a very bloody war,” said Signor Gayda.
