Mrs F. M. Henry, Hamilton, is visiting Invercargill. Miss C. Hogg, Hamilton, will spend the school vacation in Dunedin. Miss A. V. Armstrong, Hamilton, will spend the school vacation in Auckland. # * * * Miss P. Woodroffe, of the Hamilton High School, is spending the holidays in Auckland Mrs E. M. Masters, Hamilton, has left for a_tour of three months m the North Island. Mrs C. E. Honeyfield, Hamilton, is visiting her daughter-in-law, Mrs A. H. Honeyfield, Auckland. Mrs John Clegg, Christchurch, is visiting Hamilton and is the guest of her mother, Mrs P. Geary. Miss Jean Macfarlane, the wellknown New Zealand contralto has returned to Auckland from Sydney. Miss M. Riley, of the staff of the Hamilton High School, leaves tomorrow to spend the vacation in Wellington. The appointment of the first woman professor at Cambridge University was made recently when Miss Dorothy A. E. Garrod, Director A Studies in Archaeology and Anthropology, at Newnham College, Cambridge, was elected on her fortyseventh birthday to succeed Dr. E. H. Minns, of Pembroke College, in the Disney Professor of Archaeology. A happy function was held on Monday evening at the home of Mrs R. S. R. Seddon by he commitee of the Hamilton High School Old Girls’ Association when the girls leaving High School were entertained. Miss Joy McDonald rendered a vocal solo and Miss Rosalie Seddon contributed elocutionary items, the remainder of the evening being spent in competitions. Mrs A. P. Nelson, president, wished the girls success in the various careers they had chosen and the evening concluded with an exchange of Christmas greetings.

OTOROHANGA Mrs Powell has left for a holiday in Wanganui. * * ♦ n Mrs C. Blomfield is paying a brief visit to Auckland. Mrs O. M. Coverdale has returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs R. E. Pilkington leaves this week for Auckland, where she will spend several weeks. * * * * Mrs E. Wilkins, Palmerston North, is the guest of her sister, Mrs J. M. Matthews, “Glen Lee.” Miss A. Chisholm, Nelson, will arrive next week and will be the guest of Mrs F. O. R. Phillips. Mrs Birchall, Stanley Point, Auckland, spent several days in Otorohanga en route to Taumarunui, where she will be the guest of her daughter, Mrs Reardon. BRUNTWOOD Mrs Harold Cubis, Hautapu, is visiting her daughter, Mrs Jim Rockett, Patea. Miss Betty Ross .of the nursing staff of the Palmerston North Hospital, is visiting her mother, Mrs T. Ross, Fencourt. Miss Sadie King, Taumarunui, who has been staying with Mrs T. Ross Fencourt, has taken up her nursing duties at St. Peter’s School. COWING FUNCTIONS Children’s Christmas Party, National Club, Friday, December 15, at 6.30. All children of members invited. ENGAGEMENTS CLARK—STOREY Mr and Mrs L. W. Storey announce the engagement of their youngest daughter, Allison Elaine, to lan, only son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Clark, of Pukehina. LAURENT—REESE The engagement is announced between Albert Vernon, only son of Mr and Mrs W. R. Laurent, Hautapu, Cambridge, and Nellie Davoren. elder daughter of Mr and Mrs A. A.
