REVOLVER SHOT SEAMAN FOR TRIAL WELLINGTON. Wednesday Alleged to have flred a revolver at Stanley Meredith Hunt on November 26. Charles Theodore Nelson, aged 51, a Norwegian seaman, appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M.. on a charge of attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial in February. On a further chargo of being in possession of an unregistered firearm he was remanded. OCCUPATION OF POLAND RECOGNITION BY AMERICA WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 The United States has withdrawn the most-favoured-nation tariff from imports from German-controlled Poland, the duties on which will in future be similar to those for German goods It is understood that this constitutes do facto, not de jure, recognition of the German control of Poland. CANADIAN WHEAT BRITAIN IN OPEN MARKET OTTAWA, Dec. 12 Canada has decided to let Britain buy wheat in the open market, instead of selling the export surplus in bulk at? Britain desired. Britain bought bacon and some minerals, the bulk at fixed prices. Earlier it was proposed that Canada sell 100,000,000 bushels of wheat to the United Kingdom at below 80 cents but the growers declined. The last British offer is reported to have been 95 cents until the end of 1941. FAILURE OF WARPLANES GERMAN CHIEF DISMISSED LONDON. Dec. 12 the world-famous chief of the technical division of the Reich Air Ministry, Ernst Udet, has been dismissed as a result of the technical failure of German warplanes. Udet is credited with shooting down 60 Allied planes in the last war.
