J. G. WYNYARD JOINS ARMY RANK OF SECOND-LIEUTENANT DRAFT FOR PAPAKURA Waikato’s All Black, J. G. Wynyard, of Te Awamutu, has been called to the colours and will enter the Hopu Hopu military camp on Monday with the rank of SecondLieutenant, attached to the Divisional Cavalry of the first echelon. For some years Wynyard was in the Waikato Mounted Rifles as a volunteer and prior to the outbreak ol war he held the rank of company sergeant-major. He obtained commissioned rank recently. Wynyard first secured All Black honours in 1935 for the New Zealand tour of Great Britain. He went on the Australian tour in 1938 and in the recent All Black trials he impressed as almost a certainty for the South African tour if it eventuated. He has been captain of the Waikato

representatives for some time, and except when on military duties or injured he has not missed a Waikato game for several seasons. Other Men for £amp A draft of 14 men from the No. 4 military area paraded in Hamilton today before entraining for Papakura, where they will report this evening with the Rifle Battalion. They were: C. H. Brogden, O. B. Dobbs, N. V. Carlson, H. W. Gasston, J. M. Hill, R. E. Hill, T. E. L. Lincoln, F. McGrath, I. O. Moltzen, S. R. McGuinness, D T. Scholium, F. Watson, W. H. Westrupp, and R. G. Williamson. Included in the volunteers for the second echelon this week is Captain James Oliphant, of Te Awamutu. Men of the ranks who have enlisted in the last few days are: Henry James Clissold Harrey, Lawrence Oliver Herrick, Edward Francis Hurley, Percy Henry Robert Manning, Ronald Stern, William John Williamson. On Monday Second-Lieutenant T. M. Paterson will leave for Trentham, where he will r.eport on Tuesday with the Divisional Signals, as an officer for the second echelon.
