MEN TRANSFERRED

RELIEF SCHEME WORKERS LEAMINGTON DISSATISFACTION TOW* BOARD AFFAIRS (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. At the monthly meeting- of the Learn-ing-ton Town Board last nig-ht, Mr J. W. Garland presided. Dissatisfaction was expressed that all men had been removed from the No. 13 relief scheme, whereas other local bodies were still employing- a percentage of the original number engaged beTore the 4B scheme came into operation. The chairman stated that he had discussed the matter with the Social Security Department and had pointed out to the officer that the Town Board had probably round more unessential work for No. 13 scheme men than any other local body. Groves of trees had been planted and unoccupied roads opened. It had been hoped to continue these men under the scheme to keep such improvements in good order. The officer had agreed to visit the district and view the work carried out, said Mr Garland. System of Rating A report was tabled by the clerk in connection with rating on unimproved values compared with t lie present system of capital value rating. He pointed out that there were great fluctuations. Some rates would bn increased and some decreased. Small vacant sections would receive the biggest inerease. Mr J. Blarkman considered that unimproved rating would encourage the cleaning up of many sections in the board's area. At present people holding sections, with practically no rates to pay, were satisfied to let them go back. He considered that the matter might be investigated further and comparisons made with the rating in Cambridge. Mr R. S. Hanna, the clerk, stated that the present Leamington rates were i 7-8 d in the £. On unimproved values this amount would be s}d. The board decided to investigate the matter. Domain Board At a subsequent meeting or the Domain Board it was decided to investigate providing a supply of hot water for campers and visitors to the Domain. The Town Board decided to make a donation of £ls to the Cambridge Centennial Committee so that every child attending the Leamington School would receive a free copy of Cambridge’s Centennial booklet, “ Such Things Were.”
