“MENACE TO COMMUNITY”
IDLE AND DISORDERLY WOMAN DETAINED FOR ONE YEAR COMPANION SENT TO GAOL “This woman has no lawful means of support, and she is a menace to the community,” said Sergeant H. Fryer in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, to-day when Mrs Beryl Julian, of Frankton, appeared before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., on a charge of being idle and disorderly. Arising out of the case, Frank Grundberg, who was arrested in the same house, was also charged with being idle and disorderly. The case for the police was conducted by Senior-Sergeant G. H. Lambert. The woman had caused several quarrels and she was also the cause of Grundberg coming before the Court some time ago on a charge of mischief, said Sergeant Fryer. On that occasion he attempted to burn down a building. Senior-Sergeant Lambert said that Grundberg had been before the Court only once before, but Mrs Julian had appeared several times.
Julian was ordered to be detained in a State reformatory for a period not exceeding one year, and Grundberg was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment.
