CINEMA FOR CAMP
ENTERTAINMENT FOR TROOPS FACILITIES AT PAPAKURA < Special to Times.) PAPAKURA, Thursday Although the troops who have been training at the Hopu Hopu military camp were occasionally entertained with films in one of the large marquees, the men who have now been transferred to Papakura will enjoy cinema entertainment of a vastly improved nature, as a modern theatre is to be erected there. Official authority has been granted and work will start on the building almost immediately. Burnham is to have a cinema also, making the first two ever erected in a military e.mp in New Zealand.
At Papakura there will be a “shopblock,” under the control of the Internal Marketing Department, for the convenience of troops. It will include a barber’s shop and probably a gift or jewellery department. A caleteria will also be among the new buildings, as well as a very large canteen. Other structures still to be started include a supply depot, headquarters and medical staff mess, and headquarters staff quarters. All these buildings will be duplicated at Burnham.
