WAIKATO PRESBYTERY

NOVEMBER MEETING TEMPERANCE CRUSADE The Rev. G. A. Naylor, Moderator, presided over the November meeting of the Waikato Presbytery which was held at Hamilton yesterday, there £eing a representative attendance. The clerk reported that the Rev. A. H. Kedgley had been inducted into the Putaruru-Tirau charge. An application from a minister in the bounds of the Presbytery for continued assistance from the Beneficiary Fund was endorsed, subject to a satisfactory medical certificate. Matters relating to Coromandel and Huntly were deferred until the December meeting. The Church property trustees intimated sanction of the sale of a Church section at Te Awamutu. Fresbyterial Boundaries The Moderator submitted a report on the boundaries between the Waikato and Bay of Plenty Presbyteries, and, on his initiative, it was decided to approach the latter Presbytery with a tentative suggestion favouring the transfer of Omakaroa to the Waikato Presbytery, to enable it to be worked in conjunction with Katikati. It was recognised that this could be only a temporary arrangement, as the effective working of a large area now under development would be involved in the near future. The Bay of Plenty Presbytery expressed regret at the decision of the Waikato body to leave the transfer of Rotorua to the Bay of Plenty in abeyance, and hoped that the matter would not be lost sight of. The convener of the temperance committee submitted a report which recommended support for the crusader movement, in favour of total abstinence for the individual, and the formation of groups of abstainers in each congregation.—The report was adopted, and all recommendations are to be sent down to the congregations with a request that they be implemented. A committee on standing committees was set up, with instructions to report to the December meeting. The General Assembly is to meet in Christchurch next week, and the delegates were apportioned sections of business on which to submit reports. It was intimated that elders’ commissions would expire upon the meeting of the Assembly, and it would be necessary to have them renewed before the next meeting (December 5), which will be opened with a celebration of the Sacrament.
