GIFT EVENING FOR MISS MARJORIE McGRUER A very pleasant gift evening was tendered Miss Marjorie McGruer and Mr R. McGreal in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Ngaruawahia, by the members of the Ngaruawahia Rowing Club, of which Mr McGreal is a prominent member. The hall was attractively arranged with streamers and balloons. In making the presentation of the many gifts from those present, and a handsome cocktail set from the members of the Rowing Club, Mr P. Connolly, club captain, expressed every good wish for their future happiness. Mr McGreal suitably responded. Among those present were:—Mesdames A. Menzies, U. Roche, W. Matangi, J. Cryer. Misses M. Gerring, P. Menzies, K. Roche, D. Robertson,' I. Mcßurney, E. Mcßurney, M. Dooley, E. Clarke. SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY Brilliant sunshine attended the garden party organised by Princess Te Puea, and held in the pa grounds on Saturday afternoon. The proceeds are to augment the funds of the Maori branch of the Red Cross. The Ngaruawahia Band rendered several items and those present enjoyed poi dances and hakas by Te Puea’s maidens and warriors. The stall-holders were as follows: Jumble stall, Mesdames H. H. Hutt, A. Paterson, A. McCorquindale, L. Given; ice cream and drinks, Mesdames J. Burkett, F. Leek, W. H. Eaddy, Miss Margaret Douglas; ice cream and % drinks (No. 2): Mrs A. i Sutherland, Miss A. Paterson, Miss H. Bunn; sweets stall, Mrs E. L. Pascoe; tea, Mesdames Rickard, Guy Marriott, Johnston, T. Paterson, F. Hall, Proctor, B. Heather, A. Small, Waugh, S. J. Webb, Knighton, W. G, Adams, F. Jackson, R. McFarlane, W. Skewes, K. M. Wright, Misses I. Gerrard, E. Gerrard, M. Rayner; Maori stall, Mesdames Kewene and Rocheal; weight-guessing, Mr W. Cavanagh and Mr E. Morris; competition, Mr F. Hall. In charge of King’s House, Mr R. P. Knight. In the evening an enjoyable dance was held in the Kimi Kimi Hall, music being supplied by the T.P.M. Orchestra. MRS H. SNOWDEN ENTERTAINS Miss M. McGruer and Mr R. McGreal were the guests-of-honour at a delightful party given them by Mr and Mrs H. Snowden, at their residence, Ngaruawahia, recently, in honour of their approaching marriage. The rooms looked very attractive with bowls of Iceland poppies. The evening was spent in games and competitions and after supper had been served the health of the guests-of-honour was drunk. Among those present were: Mesdames H. Snowden, J. Cryer, J. Kerr, L. Sewell, J. McCauley, W. Matangi, G. Fitness, P. Connolly, J. Wilson. Misses M. McGruer, D. Robertson, E. Mcßurney, M. Dooley, J. Mcßurney.
