Mary Holl, Auckland, was a recent visitor to Hamilton. Mrs S. J. Jenkinson, Hamilto 1 | recently returned from a visit to j Napier. Mrs P. Graves, who recently visited Hamilton, has left for her home in Waver ley. Mrs J. O’Sullivan, Opotiki, has been visiting Hamilton as the guest of her daughter, Mrs F. J. Beehan. Mrs R. Clarke, Hamilton, is spending a fortnight’s holiday in Wellington, and will attend the opening of the Centennial Exhibition. Miss Julie Masters, Hamilton, leaves to-morrow for a holiday in Auckland, where she will be the guest of her sister-in-law, Mrs E. Masters. Mrs A. Churton, Waihi, who recently accompanied her sister, Mrs S. J. Jenkenson to Napier, has returned home after a short stay in Hamilton. Mrs Hugh Kaspar, J.P.. of Auckland, was a visitor to Hamilton yes--1 terday when she addressed the coilI ference of the Waikato Federation of Women’s Institutes. A successful 'bim-g and buy” afternoon was held yesterday by the Lyceum Club, when a satisfactory sum was realised to augment the president’s fund. Among the visitors to Paterangi over the week-end for the Palmer— Curtis wedding were:—Mrs Hook, Levin, Mrs McGuire, Wanganui, Mrs Homen, Mrs B. Homen and Miss Betty Homen, Auckland. Mrs A. E. Pearson, of Taumarunui, voluntary organiser of the K .ng Country Federation of Women s Institutes, is at present visiting Hamilton and attended the bi-annual meeting of the Waikato Federation of Women’s Institutes held yesterday. Notwithstanding 4 he enticement of the beautiful weather yesterday, members of the Lyceum Club gathered in the lounge to do work for the Red Cross. Noticed there were Mrs H. T. Gillies, Mrs O. R. Farrer, Mrs A. R. Brown, E. P. Cowles, Mrs J. M. Horton, Mrs T. Simpson, and Miss E. Eggleston. TE AWAMUTU Mrs Baird, of Auckland, spent the week-end with her daughter, Mrs J. Nobes. Friends gathered at the home of Mrs F. E. Waters to farewell Mr, Waters prior to his departure for Trentham. Much regret was expressed at the departure of such a popular citizen, who had at all times taken such an active part in social and sporting activities in the town. Miss Stella Empson, and her sister, Mrs G. R. Barnett, have been spending a holiday at St. Helier’s Bay. * * * * Mrs E. B. Walker, accompanied by Mrs McDougall, Te Puke, has been SDending a holiday in Auckland. * * # m Word has been received that Miss M. Howes, of the Te Awamutu Primary School, who has been on a year’s exchange leave in England, hopes to return before the end of the year. An extract from a letter reads: “Since the declaration of war, our bookings for Paris and the Continent are a thing of the past. The nightly black-outs here in London have resulted in many accidents, and we dare not venture out at night at all. We never move without our gas masks. It is amazing, however, to note the absolute lack of panic and fear shown by the pofmlace everywhere, even when air-raid sirens screech. Everything is taken so calmly.”
