Well-known Horse Dead
The well-known and successful show-ring jumper Two-Step, has died at Otorohanga. He was 26 years old. During his long showring career, Two-Step was the property of Mrs C. C. Merrin, of Otorohanga, who also trained and rode him in many of his jumping engagements. Of late years, however, Mr Colin Merrin had ridden him. Two-Step was the winner of 26 cups, £1976 in cash and numerous trophies. Among his successes in the jumping arena were the Massey Memorial Gold Cup (three times), the G. D. Hall Cup, Waikato Central Cup (at Cambridge, when 25 years old). In his 21 years over fences he put up the unique record of winning every champion jumping competition in which he competed. He was a descendant of the Great Musket strain, being by a son of Medallion. In the earlier stages of his appearances at shows, he competed with great success at the Manawatu, Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki shows.
