DEATH OF BURGOMASTER MAX GREAT TRIBUTE TO BRITAIN FACES TRIALS OF CONFLICT t Official Wireless* (Received Nov. 7, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Nov. 6 The evening newspapers express regret at the death at Brussels to-day of Burgomaster Max, following an attack of bronchial pneumonia. His courageous services to his own country in the last war are recalled in great detail. Burgomaster Max, who was 70 years of age, sent the following telegram to the Lord Mayor of London at the beginning of September: “ When Great Britain, faithful to its promise, courageously faces th 6 trials of war, I express to you, to the members of the corporation of your city, and to the population of London my feelings of most enthusiastic comradeship.” Queen Elizabeth visited Burgomaster Max while he was still conscious. The Minister of the Interior, M. Deveze, will attend the lying-in-state. The funeral has been fixed for November 9, but Burgomaster Bax’s will desired that there should be no official honours, ceremonial speeches, or elaborate processions.
