MORRINSVILLE
CHURCH PARADE R.S.A. AND TERRITORIALS Under the auspices of the Morrinsville Returned Soldiers’ Association a church parade of combined Returned Soldier and Territorial units was held at Knox Presbyterian Church. The Rev G. A. Naylor conducted the service. The parade was led by the Morrinsville Brass Band. SWIMMING CLUB ELECTION of officers At the annual meeting of the Morrinsville Amateur Swimming and Life-saving Club, in the absence of the president, Canon Karaka, Mr E. W. Clarke presided. Mr Cunnold was appointed chief instructor in lifesaving, the other instructors being Messrs P. Hall, G. Gifford, W. Clark, R. Clark and J. Cooper. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, the Mayor, Mr W. Hetherington; president. Mr E. W. Clark; vice-presidents, Messrs M. G. Philpott, N. Howie, F. H. Stretton, Dr. S. Morrow, Canon Karaka; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Aitken; assistant secretary, Mr G. Gifford; delegates to South Auckland Swimming Centre, Messrs S. Watts and E. W. Clark; selector and handicapper, Mr E. W. Clark; auditor, Mr W. McPherson; committee, Messrs S. Watts, B. Ricketts, M. Chadwick, P. Hall, J. Boles, L. Redfern, W. Clark; club captain, Mr G. Gifford; water polo committee, Messrs M. Chadwick, B. Ricketts. R. Aitken.
PASTORAL SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING HELD There was a good attendance at the Morrinsville Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s annual meeting. Mr W. J. Aitken, president, presided. The annual report showed that the returns from royalties and the weight-guessing competitions were a record. It was decided to comply with the wishes of the Northern District Council to allow space to only those sideshows licensed by the council and members of the Showmen’s Guild. It was decided to remit all subscriptions to those members absent on military service, a letter of congratulation to be forwarded to all members now in training or on active service. Mr Lefett, who is leaving the district, was elected an honorary lifemember in recognition of his past services to the society. The election of ofiicers resulted:— Patrons, Mr W. S. Ryan LABOUR PARTY DISCUSSION GROUP MEETING I The fifth of a series of Labour Party discussion groups was held under the auspices ot me Morrinsville branch recently. Various branches from the Waikato and Hauraki electorates were well represented. Discussion mainly centred round the causes of the present war, and how it affected New Zealand. Supper was supplied by the women of the Morrinsville branch. The next group meeting will be held in Rotorua early in January.
