INCREASE IN PRICES
BRITISH COAL INDUSTRY AGREEMENT REACHED (omcial wireless? (Received Nov. 4, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Nov. 3 The Mines Department announces that in accordance with the undertaking given to the Government by the Central Council of Colliery owners, that the general level of pithead prices would not be raised without prior consultation with the Government, the Central Council has submitted an application for an increase to cover the wages additions operating from November 1 and certain increased costs of production arising from war conditions. The application has been investigated by independent accountants appointed by the Government, and based upon their report an increase of Is a ton for England and Scotland and Is 4d for Wales has been agreed to. The Government has made an order requiring that the exisiting contract prices for inland supplies shall be increased by Is a ton. BROUGHT DOWN FATE OF GERMAN BOMBER (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Nov. 3 Two British fighters brought down a German bomber near Roubaix. The pilot was killed and an officer was wounded. Two others were taken prisoner. Each fighter fired one burst, forcing the German machine to crash into a hedge, whence it toppled over a bank into a brook.
