EFFECT OF THE WAR BIG DROP IN LONDON (Official Wirelo*' RUGBY, Nov. 2 The effect of the war on the retaf trade is examined in the Board o: Trade Journal, which publishes th< September statistics prepared by thi “ Bank of England. The money value of the daily sale; reported in that month was 13.9 pe: cent higher in 1939 compared witl 1938. The increase amounted to 2; per cent or more in the four provin j cial areas of England and Wales am j 12.3 per cent in Scotland. In contrast with the provinces however, London, where trade wa adversely affected by the evacuatioj of the population, transport difficul ties, and other factors, showed a con siderable drop of 27.4 per cent and small rise of 1.9 per cent in th suburban areas.
