NEW INSPECTORS
POLICE PROMOTIONS AUCKLAND DISTRICT AFFECTED (By Telegxapn.—Special ;o Times*) WELLINGTON, Tuesday The Commissioner of Police, Mr D. J. Cummings, this afternoon announced that, following the retirement of Superintendent J. Lander, of Wanganui, this week, Sub-Inspec-tor J. A. Dempsey, of Wellington, is promoted to inspector and fills the vacancy at Wanganui. Senior-Sergeant L. R. Capp, of Wanganui, has been promoted to sub-inspector, and transferred to Wellington. Senior-Sergeant E. T. C. Turner, of New Plymouth, is promoted sub-inspector, and transferred temporarily to Wellington, replacing Sub-Inspector D. O’Neill, who is taking charge of police duties at the Centennial Exhibition. Sergeant J. J. Gallagher, of head office, Wellington, is promoted to senior sergeant. Inspector J. Powell, of New Plymouth, retires on November 19, and will be succeeded by Inspector T. Shanahan, of Timaru. Auckland District Promotions affecting the Auckland district are as follows: Sub-Inspector M. Flanagan is promoted to inspector and will have charge of the Timaru district. Seniur-Sergeant D. Calwell becomes a sub-inspector and will remain in Auckland for the time being. Sergeant D. Clark, Wairoa, is made senior-sergeant and transferred to Auckland; Constable H. Hedley, Whakatane, promoted sergeant and transferred to Auckland; Constable N. S. Milligan, Gisborne, made sergeant and transferred to Auckland; Constable F. Taylor, Kaitaia, comes to Auckland as a sergeant.
