MOTORISTS FINED
TRAFFIC OFFENCES NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE “This man took the comer on the main Hamilton-Cambridge Road, at the intersection with Hillcrest Road, a full car width on the wrong side of the road,” said Mr G. G. Winter, traffic inspector of the Waikato County Council, in bringing a charge of negligent driving against N. N. F. Horscroft before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, to-day. The inspector also stated that defendant had overtaken him on an intersection. Horscroft, who did not appear, was fined £1 and costs and his license was endorsed. Speeding in Hnntly In proceeding against R. S. Passmore for driving in a manner which might have been dangerous to the public and for exceeding the 30 miles an hour restriction in the Huntly Borough, the inspector said that on the journey from Rangiriri to Hamilton defendant frequently drove over the centre line of the road and failed to keep to the left on corners. His speed entering the Huntly Borough was 40 miles per hour. Defendant slowed down in the business area but was again exceeding the limit before he had passed the southern limit of the borough. Defendant, who conducted his own case, attributed travelling over the centre line to a mechanical defect in the car. In regard to the charge of exceeding the 30 miles per hour restriction he said his speedometer had broken. A fine of £1 and costs was imposed on each charge. Other Cases L. R. Odgers was fined £2 and costs on each of two charges of overloading and Thomas Albert Johnstone £2 and costs for operating a heavy motor vehicle at over 25 miles per hour.
