Bankruptcies in Auckland

The highest number of bankruptcies for the first 10 months of the year since 1933 has been registered with the Official Assignee in Auck. land. Two petitions, in respect of a sawmiller and a painter, were filed in October, making the total for the year so far 48, compared with 30 for the first 10 months of 1938. When a man died recently on an annual outing, it was stated that his lungs were greatly extended and contained “four or five pints of fluid, doubtless beer," which had passed into the throat and then been inhaled into the lungs.
