FORT CAPTURED

FRENCH BATTALION’S SUCCESS AIR ENCOUNTERS FREQUENT (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Sept. 30, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 29 A local attack has resulted in the French capturing the Oberperl Fort in the triangle between the Saar and Moselle, says the Paris correspondent of the Times. A battalion of infantry, with tank support, achieved this purely tactical success, taking many prisoners on the four and a-half mile front. The Germans, simultaneously, unsuccessfully attacked along the Saarbrucken front. Aerial encounters are now more frequent. German interceptor planes, when attacking returning Allied reconnaissance machines, were attacked in turn by French and British escort machines to the advantage of the latter. President Lebrun visited the north-eastern sector, where he awarded three decorations.
