METHODIST VIEWPOINT (By Telegraph.—Press Association) ASHBURTON, Saturday The Rev. Angus Mcßean, President of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, has written to the actingPrime Minister and the Minister of Defence expressing on behalf of ot the church deep regret at the proposal for the introduction of wet canteens in military camps, which would mean an added load to the anxiety of many parents and would be against the best interests of the young men. Thanksgiving Fund The Presbyterian Assembly committee state that at the end of the church's financial year the total con- i tributions received or promised for j the Centennial Thanksgiving Fund : amounted to £200,000, or two-thirds of the objective. Special thanksgiving services will be held in all Presby- ! <#rian churches throughout the Do- I minion tomorrow, when all Presbyterians and friends are invited to join ' in the thanksoffering and so help in j contributing the last £IOO,OOO requir- j ed. The fund is to be applied firstly | by each congregation paying oflf the ! debt of its own church, in the ag- j gregate £200.000. and the last £IOO.000 is to assist the work of missions, to aid the Beneficiary Fund, to help increase the stipends of lower paid ministers and home missionaries, and to build up a sites and buildings fund.
