Christchurch Operatic Society The Red Cross Society will benefit as a result of the production of “The New Moon” by the Christchurch Operatic Society. This show, which is a Stan Lawson production, will begin its season next Saturday. Pinafore,” one of the most popular of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, was staged at Invercargill for two nights this week by pupils of the Southland Technical High School. Te Awamutu Drama Club The Te Awamutu Drama Club gave a successful reading of Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice” last Tuesday evening. The readers were as follows, some of the parts being necessarily doubled: Duke of Venice. Mr F. W. Beyin; Antonio, Mr B. Malone; Bassanio, Mr G. Mandeno; Salerio, Mr H. Bent; Salarino, Mr L.
