“A RUNAWAY GIRL” HAMILTON OPERATIC SOCIETY WORK WITH THE PRODUCER ! The arrival this week of the producer, Mrs E. Mcßeath, has given added interest to the rehearsals of “A Runaway Girl” by the Hamilton Operatic Society. Strong Play Against Hitlerism Hamilton is to see a striking indictment of the Hitler regime when “ Till the Day I Die,” by Clifford Odets, is staged by the People’s Theatre in the Winter Show Hall. The season is to be for three nights commencing on Thursday, October 12. “ Till the Day I Die ” reveals the terrible effects of militarism run mad, which has thrown the world into another war. Nazism kills all initiative and beauty, and breeds conditions of suspicion and terror. Its effect on the individual is shown with striking realism in “ Till the Day I Die.” ! The People’s Theatre has cast the i play well, and rehearsals show that j the play should be an event in the history of the amateur stage in Hamilton. Hamilton Playbox i “To Have the Honour,” A. A. Milne’s delightful play, was read by | the Hamilton Playbox in St. Peter’s | Hall on Wednesday. night. It was j much enjoyed. Under the direction of Mrs G. Parkhouse, good work was done by Mesdames Zelda Fahey, M. Thomas, S. Cook and Joy Sullivan, Misses Phyllis Kear and M. Heerdigan, Messrs Graham Absolum, John Harcourt, Pringle Nelson and W. Baker. Dunedin Repertory Society Four performances of “Glorious Morning” were given this week by the Dunedin Repertory Society. The play deals in striking fashion with conditions in a totalitarian state.
