ATTACK ON WARSHIPS

NO BRITISH LOSSES RAIDERS LOSE AEROPLANES (Official Wireless) (Received Sept. 29, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 28 Further details are available relating to the incident in the North Sea to which Mr Winston Churchill referred in the House of Commons yesterday. It appears that British ships were proceeding on their normal duties when they were attacked by German aircraft. The weather was fine, but there were clouds and these were used by the German bombers to dive from and attack the large ships. The cruisers were attacked by very highflying machines. The whole action had the results already stated. There were no British losses of men and no damage to ships, while one German aeroplane was shot down, one badly damaged, and one made a forced landing and was captured with its crew. BERLIN, Sept. 28 An air squadron attacked a British cruiser off the Isle of May, in the Firth of Fourth. LONDON, Sept. 28 No confirmation is obtainable in London of a German claim to have successfully attacked a heavy cruiser. This presumably is a continuation of the incorrect German claims about the North Sea naval and air engagement, in which there were no British casualties.
