NEGLIGENCE CHARGE
DEATH OF MOTOR-CYCLIST TAXI OWNER FOR TRIAL (By Teiejrrapn.—Press Association) ASHBURTON, Thursday Arising out of' a fatality on the main south road, near Chertsey, on the night of July 29, Hector William John McLean, taxi owner, was charged in the Ashburton Police Court with having negligently driven a car so as to cause the death of William Thomas Kidson. Evidence showed that rain and sleet fell during the journey from Christchurch and, when pulling out to overtake a car, the taxi collided with deceased’s motor-cycle. The driver of the third car said that the cyclist dipped his lights when meeting him. Accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed at £IOO.
