FINAL RUGBY MATCH
HAMILTON FIFTEEN GAME AGAINST MATAMATA KEEN INTEREST IN ENCOUNTER The curtain will fall on the Rugby season tomorrow when the Hamilton representatives will play Matamata, at Matamata, and the final of the Morris Cup inter-house competition will be held in Hamilton. It has been one of the best football seasons for many years and great interest centres around the meeting of the Hamilton team and Matamata. Matamata has successfully played several matches for the Peace Cup this year and is the present holder of the trophy. Among teams of many of the centres south of Auckland, Matamata has proved its dominance this season, but Hamilton enthusiasts are confident that the Hamilton team will be able to beat the Peace Cup holders. Reason for this confidence seems to be nothing else but the knowledge that the Stag Trophy championship has done more to improve Rugby in Hamilton this season than any other form of competition could have in several seasons Matamata Rugby is said to be of a high standard but it is difficult to see the team beating Hamilton, although the Hamilton team will be decidedly weakened by the many replacements that have been necessary at the last minute. If any others of the key men go out the chances of the Hamilton fifteen will be less certain. While confidence prevails in Hamilton, Matamata supporters have equally buoyant hopes. Telegraphing today, the Matamata correspondent of the Waikato Times stated that the match has evinced considerable interest among Matamata Rugby enthusiasts, who consider that the standard of football in that district is well up to that in Hamilton. There is a feeling in Matamata that the players of that district have not had the recognition they deserve from the Waikato selector. A win for Matamata tomorrow will be taken by the home supporters as an indication that their contention is justified. Matamata’s great record this season includes victories over Morrinsville, Waiuku, Waihi, Maniapoto and Pukekohe in Peace Cup games. The team to play Hamilton will be the same as that for previous games with the exception of Warrender, who is engaged in the All Black trials in Wellington. Remembering the exhibition of the Hamilton representatives against the Taranaki colts in the r„nly other game played by the Hamilton fifteen this season, local enthusiasts consider that the game in Matamata tomorrow will be a first-class exhibition. The Hamilton team will travel to Matamata by the Rotorua express. The teams are as follows: Hamilton Fullback: E. Slow (Old Boys). Threequarters: J. Davis (Frank - ton), R. Everest (Frankton), J. B.
