WEDDING

MULHERN—CAIRNS A charming wedding was solemnised with Nuptial Mass at St. Anthony’s Church, Huntly, on Saturday morning, September 2, when Doris Mabel Mary, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J Cairns, of Raynor’s Road, Huntly, was married to Paa.'ick Buckley, of Woodlands, Opotiki, eldest son of Mrs and the late Mr P. Mulhern, of Opotiki. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Monsignor Cahill, of Auckland, assisted by the Rev. Father Curtin. Miss Kathleen Gordon presided at the organ. The altar was beautifully arranged with a profusion of daffodils and violets. During the ceremony, Mr V. J. Cooke, of Waikokowai, rendered a vocal solo.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a graceful frock cf

off-white bridal satin, designed with a high neckline edged with pleated tulle and fastened down the front to the waistline with tiny crystal buttons. The long, tight-fitting sleeves which were slightly gathered at the shoulders, were edged with pleated tulle at the wrists. The softly flared skirt merged at the back into a long fan-shaped pleated train. Her hiplength veil of hand-embroidered net was worn over the face on entering the church, and fell from a top-knot of orange blossom, and she carried a sheaf of arum lilies. The Attendants Attending as bridesmaids were Miss Rose Malone, of Okaikau, and Miss Joan Thomas, of Glen Afton, who wore pretty frocks of blossom pink sprigged voile over pink taffeta, fashioned with close-fitting bodices with Peter Pan collars and long sleeves gathered on the shoulders. The skirts were fully flared and trimmed with small blue ribbon bows. They wore large picture hats to tone, trimmed underneath the brims with posies of pink stocks and blue forget-me-nots, and carried trailing bouquets of shaded pink stocks, sweet peas and freesias, arranged with maidenhair fern. The little flowergirl, Irene Davidson, of Papatoetoe, cousin of the bride, wore a dainty ankle-length frock of blossom pink sprigged voile over pink taffeta, designed with a high waistline encircled by a blue sash, short puffed sleeves and a full skirt. She wore a small net cap to tone, finished at the front with pleat-

ed net and trimmed at each side with pink ribbon bows. A Victorian posy of shaded pink stocks, forget-me-nots and maidenhair fern was carried.

The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr Desmond Mulhern, of Putaruru, as best man, and Mr Cyril Cairns, of Ohinewai, brother of the bride, was groomsman. The Reception Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents, where the tables were attractively arranged with spring flowers. The bride’s mother, Mrs J. Cairns, was wearing a smart tailored blue frock relieved with cream lace, and a navy straw hat trimmed with pink and cyclamen floral sprays. She carried a bouquet of mauve and blue violets and anemones, cream sweet peas and freesias with maidenhair fern. Mrs P. Mulhern, the bridegroom’s mother, wore a smart navy frock and coat, a felt hat to match and navy accessories. She carried a bouquet of mauve and blue violets, anemones and maidenhair fern. Miss Eileen Mulhern, of Auckland the bridegroom’s sister, wore a grey costume, black hat and black furs. Miss Kathleen Mulhern, of Opotiki, the bridegroom’s sister, was wearing a spring suit with an airforce blue felt hat. When Mr and Mrs P. B. Mulhern left for their honeymoon, the bride travelled in a bottle green costume, with a mustard hat and accessories. They will make their home at Woodlands, Opotiki.
