WESTFIELD MARKETS
STOCK SALES LITTLE VARIATION IN RATES RECOVERY IN PIG PRICES AUCKLAND, Thursday There was little variation in the values ruling at the Westfield stock markets yesterday, compared with that of last week. Values for an average offering of beef were maintained at last week’s levels, although the top price of £lB 10s did not reach the top price of a week ago. Cows and heifers sold freely at late rates, a top price of £ls 2s 6d being paid, against £ls 10s. Ewes were slightly dearer and the bidding improved as the sale progressed. The top price of 30s for prime unshorn ewes compared with 29s last week, prime wethers being quoted unchanged at a top price of 39s 9d. Full late rates ruled for spring lambs, which realised up to 345. Rates were steady at up to £8 6s for vealers. Runners mads up to £ll 9s, a slight decline. • Prices for baconers and porkers showed a recovery. Baconers reached £4 6s and porkers £2 18s, compared with £4 5s and £2 16s last week. The improvement is partly attributable to the competition of buyers requiring pigs for buttermilk feeding, and lines suitable for that purpose showed an advance in price. Comparison of Quotations The following is a summary of the prices realised for fat stock for the last two weeks at the Westfield fat stock sales:— This Week Last Week BEEF (per 1001 b) —
