Freezing Dividend The South Otago Freezing Company, Limited, has recommended a dividend of 5 per cent, unchanged, for the year ended August 31, payable on October 21. Meat Negotiations The Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, stated yesterday that finality has not yet been reached in the negotiations for the purchase by the British Government of the Dominion’s exportable surplus of meat. Hospital Trailer Fund A donation of £1 Is from J. Bateson and Son and £1 from Miss Baird brings to fund for a mobile hospital trailer to £BS 9s. The fund is sponsored by St. Peter’s Cathedral. Donations will be received and acknowledged by the Waikato Times. Duty On Beer The additional levy of 3d a gallon on beer will, it is considered, again bring forward the question of the apportionment of costs. When the duty of 6d a gallon was imposed the Price Investigation Tribunal stipulated that the retail price should not exceed 5s 6d a gallon. Frost At Ruakura Although conditions appeared comparatively mild in Hamilton this morning there was a frost of 4.9 degrees at Ruakura, a fairly heavy recording for so late in the year. Conditions in Hamilton today were an example of perfect spring weather, with the atmosphere crisp and a light breeze tempering the warm sunshine. Issue of Petrol Coupons The expeditious and courteous manner in which petrol coupons had been issued to owners of private vehicles from the Hamilton depot was the subject of appreciative comment at a meeting of the Hamilton Advisory Committee of the Automobile Association (Auckland). Members considered that the organisation could not have been better, and the fact that 1300 motorists had been attended to on the first day without delays occurring was a tribute to the work of the staff. Dominion Pilot’s Death The body of *acting-Pilot-Officer Alan George Whitehead, of the Royal Air Force and late of Palmerston North, has been recovered from the sea, according to advice received in Wanganui. Acting-Pilot-Officer Whitehead was drowned as the result of an aircraft accident on September 12. He was at a training station at Fern Hill, Shropshire, and his last letter advised that he had gained his wings. The funeral is to be with full service honours and he is to be buried at Llanengan, Wales.
