TOWN COMMITTEE MEETS CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND Members of the Raglan Township committee of the Rag-lan County Council met recently to investigate various matters in connection with the township. Those present were Messrs 11. Wilson (chairman), W. G. Vernon, W. R. Moore, K. WrigdiD (engineer), Cl. Bnownlee-Smjih (clerk), anrt C. H. Marcrol’t (representing the Ratepayers’ and Citizens’ Association). An application from the management or tfie Majestic Theatre to screen an approved prograrune on Christmas night was approved. Wandering stock in the town area is to be impounded. The present pound is to be transferred to the sanitary ground. Several complaints in connection with the sanitary service were brought berore the committee, and the engineer was instructed to make an investigation. The boring operations at the Raglan dairy factory were inspected. The bore was down approximately 200 reet, and the contractor was of the opinion that an-
other 25 to 30 feet would tap a sufficient flow to pump over 300 gallons an hour. It was decided to supply a lifebouy al the Kopua Beach and the jetty shed. The children's playground on tt>3 Kopua Is to be commenced In the very near future and should be ready by the Christmas holidays. It was decided to enclose an area or about hair-an-acre Tor this purpose. Matters in connection with the camping ground will receive prompt attention when the Loans Board sanction is to hand. Various roads, rences and tennis courts were inspected by the committee TENNIS CLUB SATISFACTORY POSITION Mr F. N. Ilardey presided over a good attendance at the annual meeting or the Raglan Tennis Club. The annual report stated that the season opened with a membership or 30 senior members and 11 junior. Visitors’ lees amounted to over £5. An open tournament was held at Christmas, a credit balance being shown. The district championship matches were held in February, these being won by Miss N. Bregrnen, 'l'e Mata and Mr Thomson, Raglan. Visits from outside clubs bad been much appreciated. The balance-sheet showed a credit or several pounds, the chairman stating that arter the neavy drain or back rent this result was very creditable. Tbe following ofilcers were elected: President, Mr F. N. Hardy; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Gihnore, G. Brownlee Smith, \V. Bates, J. C. Hall, secretary and treasurer, Mr I. Gilmour, committee, Messrs IN'. Gilniour, J. Gordon and I. Thomson, auditor, Mr S. Darby; works committee, Messrs F. Ilardey, I. and IN’. Gilmour.
Subscriptions were fixed as under: Ladies 15s, gentlemen 20s, married couples 27s Gd; two mmebers or one family 30s; juniors (under 16). high school pupils ss, primary pupils 2s 6d. A vote or thanks was passed to Miss I. Babbage, the retiring secretary.
