MISS CHRISTINA BRUCE 93rd BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday A member of an early Te Awamutu family, Miss Christina Bruce, of Auckland, celebrates her 93rd birthday at her home yesterday. She was born at Caithness. Scotland, in 1846 and at the age of 18 came to Auckland with her parents and seven others of the family of eleven, travelling from Plymoutn in the ship Aida Zeigler, and experiencing a fast but stormy passage. For some years Miss Bruce worked long hours for meagre wages as a domestic, and she devoted the remainder of her active life to the management of boarding houses. She enjoys the best oi health except for slightly defective hearing, and she has not had a day’s serious illness in her long life. Her eyesight is still good although she is now assisted by spectacles. Miss Bruce said the passing of another year meant very little to her and she had almost forgotten her birthday this year, as her parents had not made it a practice to celebrate birthdays.
