TENNIS OPENING

Beautiful weather favoured the Puketaha Tennis Club recently for the opening function of the season. An energetic working bee had previously put the sand courts and grounds into excellent order. The president of the club, Mr C. E. Thomas, put the first ball over, called upon Mrs Thomas to return to it, and declared the courts open. Visitors from Rototuna and Gordonton were welcomed and members and visitors enjoyed a pleasant afternoon of tennis. Afternoon tea was served by the club and women of the^district. September is the time for a fine disregard of sanity—daffodils are tumbling from the flower stalls, and the air is like a tonic. Woman is asserting her personality with accessories that are entertaining and witty, like the two little diamond horns jemmed into the curls above the temples—or a glazed pottery necklace and bracelet.
