THE SINGING COWBOY

CONCERT TOUR IN ENGLAND GENE AUTRY AND HORSE Gene Autry, the singing cowboy, the first of the Western stars ever to draw a fan mail comparable with that enjoyed by the glamour boys, is over in England* for a personal appearance tour at children’s matinees. Gene took with him Champion, the horse he rides in all his films, and Pal, his pet horse. During his stay in England he will wear cowboy kit all the time. There have been many cowboy stars before Autry, but he is the first to give the girl customers sex appeal and a voice which interprets hill-billy songs with all the charm and .surety of a Bing Crosby. Result: Gene is up in the five-flgure-a-year class. Autry hobbies: Non-smoking, nondrinking and avoiding Hollywood night clubs.

The play is in its eighteenth week and may last well into next season, and “Variety” estimates that her total expenditure on rights will be about £20,000.
